Melania Trump's Meme Coin Creators Facing Pump-and-Dump Fraud Legal Action
The architects behind a cryptocurrency launched by US First Lady Melania Trump are now charged in legal documents of executing a pump-and-dump scheme.
Initial Launch and Price Surge
The $MELANIA coins were released for just a few cents each on the 19th of January, one day preceding Donald Trump assumed the presidency.
In addition to the $MELANIA coin, Donald Trump introduced his own digital currency shortly prior to the inauguration ceremony.
Within hours, the value of the $MELANIA cryptocurrency skyrocketed to $13.73 per unit.
Rapid Decline in Value
Yet, the value then collapsed almost as quickly, and is now only about 10 cents – below 1% of its peak price.
Meanwhile, the $TRUMP token achieved a maximum of $45.47 and currently exchanges for approximately five seventy-nine.
Legal Allegations and Investors' Arguments
The claimants claim that the token's architects organized the maneuver aware that the cryptocurrency's price would decline sharply.
Melania Trump personally is not included in the legal action. Investors indicated they do not think she was culpable, but accused the crypto companies of exploiting her and other familiar faces as a cover for their criminal operations.
Trading Venue Involvement
According to recently submitted legal documents, claimants charge leaders of the Meteora cryptocurrency exchange, where the First Lady's token was first exchanged, of creating a plan that allowed them to indirectly purchase large quantities of the cryptocurrency.
Their partners then rapidly offloaded these cryptocurrencies, pocketing substantial profits while leading to the market to collapse, according to papers submitted in New York federal court.
Wider Proceedings
The charges about the Melania token have been incorporated into judicial actions involving multiple additional virtual tokens, which began in spring.
Trump-associated entities has allegedly generated in excess of a billion dollars in pre-tax gains from several blockchain-associated enterprises and organizations over the last year.
